Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare the use of metadiscourse in 30 experimental research articles (RAz) written in english fron three disciplines; agriclture, zoology and geology. The 30 Ras are divided into two cropora. The frist corpus includes 15 internationally published articles with 5 articles per discipline, and the second corpus consists of 15 RAs published in Egypt with also 5 articles per discipline. Two models of metadiscourse are applied in this study. The frist is Vande Kopple’s (2002) model, which is used to identify and classify metadiscourse. The scond is Hyland and Tse’s (2004) model. Which is used to help in interpreting some textual metadiscourse devices from an unterpersonal perspective. The findings obtained from the quantitative analysis of metadisourse show that the international and the Egyptian scholars use more interpersonal metadiscourse devices than textual ones.
