Abstract The post-natal age changes’ studies are of greatest importance, for early detection of any growth abnormalities and hence early and proper treatment. Interest has been focussed on the age changes in the liver, being a vital organ. The liver secretes the bile and has many metabolic functions. The liver -.g parenchymal cell (hepatocyte) is hexagonal in shape ?v containing round nucleus within which lies a small nuoleolus. The cytoplasm of hepatocytes contains mitochondria, and extensive network of tubules, associated with ribosomes, called rough endoplasmic reticulum. These organelles are clumped into groups in the cytoplasm separated by areas of low electron density, glycogen granules. The terminal dilated portions of rough endoplasmic reticulum are pinched off with their contents as smooth round vesicles to reach Golgi complex. The cisternae of smooth endoplasmic reticulum are separated from one another by single row of glycogen rosettes. Dense bodies smaller than mitochondria are present near bile canaliculi and bounded by a membrane, called lysosomes. |
