Abstract Evaporation is defined as the transmission of water from any free liquid water surface to the atmosphere at a temperature below the boiling point of water. It represents one of the main components of water budget. Therefore, knowledge of which is indispensable for the solution of numerous water management problems. Reliable evaporation data are also necessary for planning and development of reservoirs. However, due to the interaction between many factors controlling the amount of water lost by evaporation, no universally recognized method is known for its computation. In Egypt, due to the limited water budget it is important to use water more efficiently. As a result looking for water loss reduction methods comes top on the country’s priorities. This research introduces computations of water lost by evaporation from water surface areas of Lake Nasser. Many alternatives to reduce evaporation are tried and evaluated. The study concluded that lake development by blocking the secondary channels is efficierit. Also cultivating the lake surface area by rice and lowering the upstream levels of HAD are efficient alternatives of decreasing the evaporation losses. |
