Abstract

Since the use of the NC machines, many NC languages were
developed. Today more than 33 languages are used. These languages
are used to help the user to prepare the workpiece part programme.
In Egypt no special language is made to help the user in preparing
the workpiece part programme. So this research was done in order to
give the user a tool that helps him when he uses such types of
machines. In order to reach these objectives, a software programme
was designed and prepared to be used on wide types of machines as
milling machines, drilling, etc. The programme can help the user on
programming the 2D and 3D workpieces .
The Quick Basic computer programming language is used to prepare
the software. The user / computer interactive process is used to
design the programme ( CAIPP ). The thesis is divided to five
chapters which are:-
Chapter 1”- gives a historical background of the NC machines and
the ways of their programming.
Chapter 2- contains an explanation of the programme features
presenting the following items:
a) Catalogue category which is used to review the part programme
files’ name which are saved in the part programme directory.
b) Tool table programme which is used to prepare the tool table
offset. Any number of tools can be assigned
c) Edit category which explains how can the user deals with the
following items: •
-Training editor programme designed for training purposes.
-Machine parameter programme which is used to prepare a
file called” machine parameter file” which is the data file
containing the machine codes.
-Machine editor programme which is used as a general
programme for any machine codes. This software can
understand the machine codes needed by using the
machine parameter data file.
d) Graphic category which is used to obtain data DXF file written
in ASCII codes which is readable by the AUTOCAD software. A
graphic drawing for the workpiece is then monitored and tested
by the use of AUTOCAD software facilities ( print, plot, zoom,
... etc. ).
e) A hint on the compute category as it is explained in details on
chapter 3.
f) Commercial communication software ( MAXI - MITE) is used
to transmit and receive the part programme data file and the
tool table data file from the computer disk to the NC control
unit or to the reader / punch tape machine unit, through EIA RS232
interface ( serial transfer data card ).
Chapter 3- supports the user to make the workpiece analysis grvmg
an output of the turn points of the part.
All those programmes are of the interactive type.
Chapter 4- contains the case studies as obtained and tested by the
software.
Chapter 5- contains the main concluded points which may be
summarized as follows •
a) It is possible to develop a programming system which has the
capability of preparing the part programme of the different CNC ’;
machine.( milling, turning, ... etc.)
b) Three groups ( analysing and processing of the workpiece,
producing the part programme file and transferring that file )
must be developed to give an advanced system.
c) It is possible to use a standard PC computers with a
programming language to operate the CNC machines.
d) It is possible to write the part programme 111 a shape of
sequential numbers only which is used to save the part
programme data in smaller size.
e) It is possible to translate again the sequential number data file
to a pint programme for the same machine or for a different one
after slight modification .
