Abstract Peritoneal dialysis is established as an important modality for maintaining patients with ESRD and undoubtedly contributed more towards the solution of its inherent problems. (18) Peritonitis remains the major problem facing it .(17) So this work aimed at investigating IPD patients for the earliest signs of peritonitis, isolation and identification of responsible bacterial or ftmgal pathogens and microbiological study of transcatheter and pericatheter migration of microbes. The present work included 15 patients with chronic renal failure of diverse causes who were admitted to IPD program in the dialysis unit of the nephrology department at Gamal Abd El Nasser health insurance hospital, Alexandria, over a period of 5 months from February 1994 to June 1994 . Detailed history including, personal, aetiology of ESRD , indications of IPD , hours of dialysis / week, other associated diseases, signs of peritonitis and its management, intake of antibiotics and / or conticosteronds . Dialysate effluent samples (50 ml from the outflow) were collected. One portion was cytologically examined (total and differential leucocytic count). Another 10 ml of the dialysate effluent were mixed with 3 drops of triton-x , centrifuged, then the resultant sediment was s |
