Abstract Thirty two patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis in different stages , 24 males and 8 females with age ( mean 3?.2 ± 5.5 years ) were studied clinically together with c-ssaying serum immunoreactive erythropoietin .The results were compared to those of 8 healthy individuals oF matched age and ser; as a control group .Hepatosplenic schistosomiasis patients without renal insufficiency showed a significant increase in serum erythropoietin ( 14.52 ± 9.17 mU/ml ) than the control group(&. 95 ± 1-43 fTiu/ml ) P < 0.05 and marked anemi a ( Hb cone 3.39 ± 1 .59 gm/dL ) .NhiIe hepatosplenic schistosomiasis patients with renal impait inent showed no significant increase in serum erythropGietin ( 7.58 ± 1.86 mU/ml ) in comparison with the contr i-i 1 group P > 0.05 a 1 though they show marked decrease i n-’b ( 7.191 0.75 gm/dL ) .comparison of serum erythropoie-tin of patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis and normal renal function with those patients with renal insufficiency showed significant evaluation in serum erythropoietin in those with normal renal function. |
