Abstract Seismic isolation has become a common strategy for earthquake resistance to protect buildings from damage. This thesis is focused mainly on seismically base isolated behavior of the plan reinforced concrete frames with different number of stories under the action of equivalent earthquake static loads given by the international codes and the dynamic action of earthquake time history. Two major aspects characterize the analysis; the effect of different base isolation properties on the resulted straining actions and displacements; and an investigation of the effectiveness of the base isolation through a comparison between fixed base frames with base isolated frames. The isolation bearings were simply modeled as bilinear hysteric elements. For static analysis, the results of Euro code were compared with those obtained from the International Building Code. The non linear dynamic analysis under the action of three different artificial earthquakes used to compare seismic response of fixed base and base isolated concrete frames. It includes effect of isolation on displacement & acceleration at top floor, inter-story drift, max.-drift, base shear and energy dissipation. |
