Abstract This research is concerned with improving the bearing capacity of granular soil beneath strip footing by using plastic geo-grids as a soil reinforcement. A loading frame and a plain-strain soil bin were prepared for testing a footing resting on soil. Effect of geo-grid parameters on soil response and bearing capacity of soil were experimentally investigated. The parameters studied were depth, length and number of geogrids beneath the footing. The experimental data are reduced in forms of tables and curves to show the relationships between footing load and settlement. The optimum depth, length and arrangement of geogrid beneath the footing are determined. The shape of soil distortion during the footing loading are also investigated. |
