Abstract

Summary e^ Condusion (108)Abdominal pain is one the most common symptom of gastrointestinal disease and leads to surgical intervention more than any other gastrointestinal manifestation. About 25% of patients presented to the emergency department complain of abdominal pain.
Diagnostic laparoscopy allows the direct visual examination of the intra-abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder, spleen,
peritoneum and pelvic organs. In addition, biopsies, aspiration and cultures can be obtained. The purpose of this examination actually is to see if there is a problem that has not been found with noninvasive tests.
Laparoscopy has a diagnostic as well as a therapeutic role in management of many abdominal visceral disorders with no need to proceed to laparotomy to treat these patients.
The present study was carried out to evaluate laparoscopy as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in management of acute and chronic abdominal pain.
This study included 40 patients suffering from abdominal pain; all patients were subjected to detailed history, thorough general and local physical examination, all patients were subjected to laboratory and radiographic evaluation.
