Abstract

Phonological Processes were classified into Common and Unusual (Idiosyncratic) Processes. Our study on two groups. Groups (I) normal devolving language development children, Groups (II) delayed language development children through analysis their different speech samples that amounted to half hour.
It was found during analysis of speech sample from two groups that the most Common Phonological Processes used by two groups was the Weak Syllable Deletion. This is because this process simplified the word structure by decreasing the number of syllables.
It was found during analysis of speech sample from two groups that the most Unusual Phonological Processes used by two groups was the Glottal Replacement .The /7/ phoneme is very easy for children speech production because it not need any movement of the articulatory organs of mouth cavity.
Phonological processes normally resolve themselves. Before age 3 years is Weak Syllable Deletion, Final Consonant Deletion, Reduplication, Fronting, Consonant Assimilation, and Prevocalic Voicing. After age 3 years are Cluster Reduction, Gliding, Stopping, Vocalization, and Final Devoicing.
Delayed language development recognized by delayed in resolving the phonological processes found in typically developing children also display idiosyncratic processes such as Glottal Replacement Backing, Initial Consonant Deletion, Stop Replacing Glide and Fricative Replacing
Stop.
