Abstract

blood banks in Shebin El-Koin City. Full history was taken, and they were asked about previous donation, blood tansfusion, operation or jaundice.
Their ages were ranged from 18-53 years and it included 32 females and 68 males.
All donors were clinically free.
Blood samples were taken and sera were tested for :
1. HBsAg by ELISA and latex.
2. HCV by ELISA.
3. AIDS by ELISA.
4. level of ALT.
The result revealed that :
1) 15 % of blood donors were HBsAg positive by ELISA.
2) Only 5% were HBsAg positive by latex.
3) The prevalence of HBsAg was 17.6% in males and 9.4% in females.
4) HBsAg was more frequent in the age group (20-30) years.
5) HBsAg was more frequent in blood donors with history of donation twice (50%).
