Abstract
Haemodialysis process is usually associated with many cardiovascular complications. from these complications arrhythmia is the most serious one
Q.T interval represents depolarization and repolarization of the ventricle and its prolongation predisposes to serious ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death.
To investigate the effect of haemodialysis on Q.Tc interval, 20 patients were selected from the dialysis unit of Shebien-El-Koom hospital,lO patients with chronic renal failure on conservative therapy and 10 healthy individuals were taken as a control group.
It was found that Q.T,Q.Tc intervals were prolonged in most patients with chronic renal failure on conservative therapy. Haemodialysis shortened Q.T,Q.Tc intervals significantly in the dialysis patients.
Electrolyte disturbances, acidosis, blood urea and serum creatinine are orrected by haemodialysis, but the correlation between the changes in these arameters and the change in Q.T,Q.Tc intervals was not significant, cordingly,hypocalcaemia, hyperkalaemia, acidosis, high blood urea and rum creatinine as causes of Q.T, Q.Tc intervals prolongation are unlikely.
