Abstract Renin is a proteolytic enzyme secreted by the sv kidney into the blood stream. It is not h.’-perten,bie per se bixt through enhancement of the production of angiotensin II & III. Renin is responsible for many cases of hypertension including dialysis resit ant uncontrollable hypertension where the level of the PRA should be suppressed either through antirenin drugs or through bilateral nephrect omy. Secretion of renin may ‘be suppressed in hemodi— alysis patients with fluid excess producing the disease of h.yporininernic hypoaldosteronism. The basal level of renin in end stage renal failure is higher than the normal level and it increases more after one session heamodialysis indicating a high secretory capacity by the kidney. This nesponse is a maltifactorial one depending on many factors non of which is of greater importance than the other. That is why it varies from one individual patient to another. |
