Abstract

The term asthma was derived from the Greek word aeaning difficulty in breathing and this term was used for centuries to describe all types of shortness of breath. ’ Bronchial asthma is defined as a diffuse obstructive lung disease with hyperirritability or hyperreactivity of the airways to a variety of stimuli and a high degree of reversibility of the obstructive
process which ciay occur either spontaneously or as a
(?} result of treatment.^’
The classic symptoms of asthma are cough, dyspnea and wheezing. A dry cough tends to occur early in the course of an asthmatic attack and is followed by wheezing and dyspnea. ’ Llany asthmatic children become completely free from bronchospasci between attacks, while others are suffering from expiratory difficulty, chronic cough or wheezing in between attacks, ’ Bronchial asthma can be
classified according to the clinical picture into three
