Abstract Volatile inhalational anaesthetics will remain a good forward step in the field of general anaesthesia returning to their role as a cause of modem surgery development by their advantages as convenience of induction and recovery good obtundors of upper airway reflexes, muscle relaxant effect, some degree of analgesia but these were faced by some drawbacks as cardiovascular depression, flammability, toxic metabolite production, so, continuous researches were done to reach an ideal one by modifying the structures of V.I.A from ethers the grandfather of all V.I.A to the young generation desfiurane and sevoflurane and all those under investigations. Along with pathway many agent have been risen and others withdrawn. Those which disappear e.g. because of their flammability “ether”, toxic metabolite production chloroform, methoxyflurane and trichioroethylene, high volatility hence increased toxicity “ethyl chloride” in spite of their withdrawn still used in some places and situations. The present popular three potent V.l.A that occupy the whole field of general anaesthesia are halothane, enflurane and isoflurane their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics were discussed aiming to put every one of them in the suit place. |
