Abstract

There has been increasing interest in total intravenous anaesthesia especially with recent intravenous anaesthetic agents. Total intravenous anaesthesia eliminates the hazards of anaesthetic gas exposure and theatre pollution. Propofol, has shown advantages in day surgery over the other available anaesthetics in provision of good anaesthetic conditions with more rapid recovery.
The present study was designed to compare thiopentone and propofol total intravenous anaesthesia for minor surgical procedures on dental chair as regard the efficacy of each drug during induction, maintenance and recovery from anaesthesia.
This study was carried out in the Main Alexandria University Hospital on 40 patients. All patients received 0.015 mg/kg atropine as premedication. Patients were divided into two groups; 20 patients each. Group I patients received thiopentone and group II patient received propofol as total Intravenous anaesthesia.
