Abstract The practice of female circumcision is believed to be widespread in Egypt, although little information is available on the prevalence and distribution of the practice or on attitudes towards it.It is estimated that, at present 85-115 million girls and women world-wide have undergone some form of female circumcision .Female circumcision is prohibited in governmental hospital and health centers since 1959. The present Health Minister issued decree in July 1996 banning FGM in public hospitals and both public and private clinics.Nowadays, abolishing of female circumcision as one of the harmful traditional practice (HTP) become an important aim and goal in promotion of women and children health in Egypt which emphasized by The Third National Conference of Egyptian Women.Also This present study has the following aim of work : 1- To investigate different motives of female circumcision practice.2- To study the impact of knowledge, attitude and practice of studied subjects on the persistence of female circumcision in Menoufiya Governorate .3- To study the association between female circumcision and the potential sexual and .psychological hazards if feasible . 4- To enhance the correct concepts of female circumcision among the studied population to motivate sound practice in the future.5- To set out recommendations according to the results . |
