Abstract

Angiogenesis of formation of new blood vessels, is tightly regulated process in which blood vessels supply growing tissue with nutrients, growth factors, hormones and oxygen to meet the needs of development or repair of injured tissues. Liver growth also depends on angiogenesis. When angiogenesis is reduced, growth and repair decrease significantly .
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),a glycoprotein which can combine with heparin and has a relative molecular weight of 34-46 K.d, is one of the most potent known angiogenesis factor.
VEGF is significantly expressed by sinusoidal cells and hepatocytes, whereas modest and inconstant expression has been reported for kupffer cells.
Tumers cells can secrete VEGF, which can induce angiogenesis in tumor cells, increase vascular permeability, assist the entry of tumor cells into the vascular system and facilitate invasion and metastasis of tumor cells.
Also this study deails to evaluate the level of vascular endothelial growth factor in the serum of patients with various chronic liver diseases .
