Abstract
The goal of modern hypospadias surgery is creation of a functional neourethra with slit like vertical neomeatus in a penis that appears after healing to have been only circumcised. Since the tubularized incised plate(TIP) repair recapitulates normal urethral formation, it is widely applicable, has low complication rate and produces cosmetic results superior to other techniques.
TIP technique, when used in conjunction with routine vascularized dartos flap coverage, a 2-layer closure of the neourethra and special attention to preservation of the periurethral vascular supply, the rate of fistula formation is minimal. We believe that this is the optimal technique for virgin cases of distal hypospadias not associated with severe chordee.
