Abstract The lipids are a chemically heterogenous group of substances which share the property of being insoluble in water and readily soluble in organic solvents. In normal adult man, 16% of the body weight is formed of lipids. Lipids act as sources of oxidative energy to the muscles and other tissues. Cholesterol serves as n structural lipid and acts BR a precursor of bile acida and steroid hormones. The major lipids in plasma are free cholesterol, cholesterol esters, triglycerides, phospholipids, and free fatty acids. All plasma lipids, other than PFA are transported as lipoproteins. These are classified into: chylomicron, VLDL, LDL, and HUL. *» It has been known that the plasma lipid increases during pregnancy. The cause of this increase is not clear, and changes in the lipid metabolism, changes in the liver function, and the influence of hormones must be considered. Pre-eclampsia-ec |
