Abstract

In recent years, several studies provided evidence in favour of an attractive hypothesis which implicates PCs in the process of cervical ripening as an integral part in the physiological mechanisms initiating labour .Since then the interacervical administration of PGE gel has proven to be an efficient and safe semi-physiological method either for softening and dilating the cervix prior to surgical or for treatment of the an unfavourable cervix before induction of labor at or near term .The aim of this study was to investigate the ripening effect of locally administered PGE_gel on both the pregnant and non-pregnant human cervix, both clinically and histochemically. The primary objective was to use the drug for ripening the cervix as a preparatory measure prior .
