Abstract

Hepatitis C infection (HCV) is a global health problem. It is one of ilie most important causes of infections’ morbidity and mortality worldwide. The prevalence ofHCV is quite different all over the world and even in the same country from area to another, being lowest in North Europe, Canada and Australia (prevalence rate < 0.5), intermediate in France, United Kingdom and USA (0.5-1 ) and highest in Southern and Eastern Europe and in the developing countries ( > 1). In Egypt it is a major public health problem. It competes with schistosomiasis as a leading cause of chronic liver disease (CLD).
