Abstract Studies conducted in different countries on building construction workers have indicated high prevalence of occu.pational dermatoses including c8ment eczema. The present stu.dy was conducted to assess tl?-e prevalence of these dis eases among the expendins Egyptian building construction workers, to detect the factors which predispose them to the development of cGment eczema, to define the role of chromium in the pathogenesis of the disease and to determine the efficiency of the methods used for prevention. A randomly selected samplG of 938 workers involved in the different operations of the building trades and Gxpose& to cement in different manner was examined. ’J:1he sample covered the whole spectruIIl of the personal, social and occupa tional traits of the Egyptia;n workers. A control group of 220 subj ects of similar traits to tha t of the examined sample was similarly selected from the auxilli.ary workers in a textilG plant.
