المستخلص The demand for animal protein in Egypt is expected to increase progressively with the rapid increase in human population. At the same time there is a shortage in protein sources and energy for human and animal consumption in Egypt. Rabbit production has potential in developing countries as a mean of supplying cheap, high quality animal protein within the shortest possible time using diets based mainly on forages. The own a number of characteristics that make them suitable as meat-producing small livestock in developing countries. The small body size, short generation interval, high reproductive potential, rapid growth rate, genetic diversity and the ability to utilize forages and by-products as a major diet component, favour them for the mentioned function.
