Abstract

Tonsillectomy remains one of the most common surgeries which is done for many indications the commonest of which is recurrent attackes of tonsillitis .
Many methods are used for tonsillectomy such as guillotine tonsillectomy (Goycoolea et al.,1982) , diathermy tonsillectomy (Yuan et al.,1984 laser tonsillectomy (Martinez and Akin,1987) , however dissection tonsillectomy remains the most common method used in tonsillectomy surgery .
Coblation tonsillectomy being a recently introduced technique depends on applying radiofrequency current with lower frequency than bipolar diathermy , allowing for significantly less painful and more rapid healing of tonsillar fossae (Timms and Temple,2002) .
Aim of work in this study is to compare between the traditional dissection technique for tonsillectomy and a relatively new tool which is coblation tonsillectomy . This implies all aspects of surgery including operative time, reproducibility , post-operative course and incidence of complications .
