Abstract This study was carried out at Noubaria Experimental Station, Animal Production Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and laboratory analysis of the experiments were conducted at Animal production Department, Faculty of Agriculture (Tanta), Tanta University during the period from 2005 to 2006. In order to carry the digestibility trails, nine adult Barki Sheep (42 Kg average weight) were used. The first six sheep were males and used for digestibility trails. The other three sheep were females fitted with rumen permanant fistula to estimate rumen fermentation patterns. Lactating cows were arranged in 4x4 Latin square to perform the lactation experiment. Flax straw was used as roughage in the four experimental diets as follows:-1- Untreated flax straw (FS), control. 2- Treated flax straw with urea ( 4% , UFS ) F 3- Treated flax straw with fungus (Trichoderma viride , FFS ) 4- Treated flax straw with urea (4%) then with the fungus (UFFS). Flax straw diets were offered to animals ad-libkum, while concentrate feed mixture (CFM) was offered according to NRC (1985) for sheep and NRC (1988) for dairy cows.
