Abstract

Mobile Internet access such as web browsing, e-mail, and file transfer is one of the attractive multimedia services that are likely to be supported by High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).
‎HSDPA is a key feature in the 3rd generation wireless communication standard Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and is known as 3.5G with data transmission up to 8-10 Mbps (and 20 Mbps for MIMO systems) over a 5MHz bandwidth in WCDMA downlink. This technology provides high data rate transmission in WCDMA downlink to support multimedia services. Several key technologies, such as adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), hybrid automatic request (HARQ), and multiple input multiple output (MIMO), fast cell search are used in HSDP A to achieve this goal.
‎This thesis explores the performance of different packet scheduling algorithms in HSDPA for non real time. Mobile technology and a comparison between WCDMA and CDMA2000 have been introduced in chapter one. The main features of HSDP A and the modification of WCDMA system to support high data rate have been explained in chapter two. In chapter three, the various packet scheduling algorithms have been described. The simulation model has been thoroughly implemented in chapter four. The performance of existing schedulers has been investigated in chapter five. In chapter six, several conclusions have been achieved in addition to future work.
