Abstract
This study was carried out at sids Experimental Station belonging ton the animal production Research Institute-Ministry of agriculture.The work included two parts:
Part1:
the analysis of breeding records of 8 buffalo herd during the
period 1945- 1972 involving 47O first lactation records
in order to: - (a) estimate the reliability of usiag partial
lactation in the progeny testing through studying the correlation between28, 56, 84 and l12-day milk production and the required for progeny testing.
Part2:
seventy two egyptian buffalo ( 36 males and 36 females) six months old were uSed to study the effect of plane of nution and SOUrce of protein on age at puberty and maturity age as well as the effect of replacing urea to a part of cottonseed cake on fertility to determine the optimum plane of nutrition to obtain an early sexual maturity in males and fem ales. Three levels of energ.y 100% , 120% and 140% TDN intake
(based on the midpoint of Morrison’s standards) and two sources of protein( cottonseed cake alene or with urea) were the treat ments studied.
Calves of eaCh sex were assigned randomly to the six treatments A,B,C,D,E, and F. mixture (1) contained 65%cottonseed cake while mixture (2)contained 48%cottonseed cake +1%urea
