Abstract The present investigation was conducted in Alexandria and was carried out to study the effect of storing different white rice varieties: Saka 101 , Giza 178, and Yasmine for a duration of (3, 6, 9 and 12 months), in different storage conditions (clean closed, shelf and air-conditioned stores) and different packaging materials (cloth bags, carton boxes, plastic bags and paper packs) on physical, chemical and cooking rice quality characteristics, in addition to insect infestation rating, of white rice derived from three different rice varieties (Giza 178, Sakha 101 and Yasmine).In addition, the presence of my cot ox ins in all rice samples during the storage periods. in different storage conditions and different packaging materials was studied. In generally, it can be concluded that out of seven studied grain quality c~aracters, only three characters were affected significantly by storing rice in different storage packages. The changes of these characters started after 6 months storage period i.e. yellow and cracked kernels percentage, and after 9 months for protein content. Further storing rice in carton boxes exhibited the better changes in the means of these characters, meanwhile, plastic bags and / or paper bags gave the worst values. In additi |
