Abstract

Endometrial carcinoma comes first in incidence and second in mortality among female genital tract tumors. There is a wide variation in the incidence of endometrial carcinoma noted throughout the world. InEgypt, however tumors of the female genital system represent 6.0 I% of total malignancies, the relative frequency of endometrial carcinoma being ’¥’ 8.81%. Carcinoma of the endometrium is primarily a disease of menopausal and postmenopausal women representing 80% of cases.
Several studies have indicated that prolonged estrogenic stimulation, unopposed by progesterone, may promote the development endometrial ..,” hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, and endometrial carcinoma.
The proto-oncogene HER-2/neu (also known as C-erb B-2) is present on chromosome 17. It encodes a I85-kd trans membrane glycoprotein with tyrosine kinase activity which has close sequence homology with the epidermal growth factor receptor.
HER-2/neu over expression is associated with poor prognosis in endometrial cancer patients, also, it is said to be associated with low survival.
The aim ofthis study is the evaluation ofHER-2/neu over expression in different endometrial conditions (normal, hyperplastic, and malignant) ””’:’t endometrium.
The samples consisted of (50) cases (10 cases of normal secretory and proliferative endometrium, 10 cases of endometrial hyperplasia, and 30 cases of endometrial carcinoma). In this study we use avidin- biotin complex method (ABC).
