Abstract Twenty patients with long standing active rheumatoid arthritis involving the knee joint constituted the material for this work. All patients had a disease on history of unsuccessful treatment with at least one disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD , and evidence of erosive disease on x rays of the hands . Patients treated with stable doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs , various DMARDs for at least 3 months or oral prednisolone 7.5 mg/day less with continued disease activity , will be allowed to continue with stable doses . |
