Abstract

Ismailia wastewater treatment plant (IWWTP) is located approximately 14.5 Kilometers south of the city of Ismailia. The plant was designed to receive flow of 90,000 m3/day and has two parallel treatment trains. IWWTP influent wastewater is pumped to the plant through a force main from the Abu-Atwa pump station. WWTP effluent water is discharges into the Mahsma Drain, which flows east and north through agricultural land for approximately 7.5 Kilometers before discharging into the West Lagoon of Temsah Lake.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was done to study the removal performance of Ismailia WWTP and the effect of treatment steps on the ground water that surrounded the whole plant. Also, the study aims to make an Environmental Impact Assessment of effluent water on the Mahsma Drain and Temsah Lake. The study included physico-chemical and microbial parameters throughout the duration of the study period started on January 1997, and ended on June 2000. The ground water monitoring program represents the data of 10 wells around lagoons of Ismailia wastewater treatment plant and the Receiving water monitoring program represents the data of 8 points of Mahsma Drain and Temsah Lake. The programs were included physical, chemical and microbial properties.
The sludge monitoring program was included physical properties and heavy metals content such as Chromium, Cadmium, Nickel, Cobalt, Zinc, Manganese, Copper and lead measuring.
