المستخلص

To evaluate a new PPD tuberculin reactivity, it is essential to compare it with a well defined standard PPD tuberculin before its release for wide spread distribution and use.
The Goal is to shift in the use of imported ppd to the national Egyptian one to save foreign currency.
The objectives of this study were; To compare reactivity of new ppd-2 (Egyptian manufactured) to the commercial ppd-1 (imported from Copenhagen- Denmark) and to compare side effects of new ppd -2 to the standard commercial ppd-1
The study is a randomized double blind controlled study which was carried out on two study groups; 65 TB Patients and 120 Healthy volunteers
Every individual in the study was given PPD1 in one arm and PPD2 in the other arm. Randomization was done to select which arm is injected with PPD1 or PPD2
An informed consent form was signed by the volunteers, also a short interview questionnaire at the test station and a reading form on the reading setting.
Patients are tested by receiving 0.1 ml of 5 U of each PPD randomly in the anterior forearm just below the elbow alternating right and left forearm
Induration was observed after 48-72 hours, also any side effects were noted.
