Abstract
The present study was done on 888 girls of Diruit school girls at 1992-1993 to detect the age at menarche and the possible factors affecting it. Their ages ranged from 11-17.5 years. The age at menarche was 13.69±0.12 years and it ranged from 11-17.5. the whole group was divided into three socio-economic groups; A, B and c according to Fahmy and El-sherbini (1983). The socio-economic state affected age menarche, the age at menarche of the high class (A) girls was 13.01 years (S.D±1.75) earlier than that of low class (C) girls which was 13.88 (S.D±2.35) with significant difference (P>0.001).
