Abstract
Oral cancer is a common malignant neoplasm causing much morbidity, disfigurement, and mortality. Therefore, success in reducing mortality and morbidity from oral cancer depends on the delineation of the risk factors and their prevention.
This study covered, 40 patients 22 males 18 females, admitted to the maxillofacial unit, department of Surgery, Assiut University Hospital from September 1995 to December, 1996, their ages ranged from 15 to 70 years.
Patients were classified into three groups:
The 1St group included patients with malignant oral cavity lesions (26 cases, 65%). The 2nd group included patients with benign oral cavity lesions (10 patients, 25%). Four patients with inflammatory lesions in the oral cavity were included as the 3rd group (10%).
