Abstract Family planning is an essential factor for solving the population problem and promoting maternal, child and family health. There is increasing awareness that P.P. practice is not basically a medical concern but rather a social behaviour. The aim of this work was to calculate continuation rates for different contraceptive methods and to estimate their use-effectiveness (failure rates). Characteristics of currently married women in reproductive age (15-49 years) and information on fertility pattern among them were sub.objectives of this work. Also cytopathological changes among a sub-sample of the target group were identified. i For achieving this purpose, 1500 Alexandrian currently married women in the reproductive age (15-49 years) were selected using cluster sampling technique. One third of these women (500) was randomly chosen by the systematic sampling technique for Papanicolaou smearing. Data were collected through a specially designed forms of interview schedule. The studied sub-sample (500) was subjected to gynecological examination and Papanicolaou smearing. |
