Abstract

Aim of the study: - to identify the draw-backs of grain, flour, and free silica dusts on the respiratory system of exposed workers including : bronchial asthma, bronchitis, and silicosis, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. – to identify the advantages of using cylinders in el minia factory and disadvantages of using millstones.
Prolonged unprotected exposure to grain , flour and free silica lead to many respiratory hazards.
The prevalence of bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis were significantly higher among exposed workers than non-exposed. And both diseases are higher among workers of samalout than workers in elminia factory. Dry cough , productive cough , dyspnea, and wheeze are the main respiratory symptoms developed among workers of flour milling industry. The pulmonary function test including (FCVI, FEVI/FVC%, and FEF25-75%) were significantly lower in the exposed workers than in non-exposed.
