Abstract

The aim of this work is to evaluate dipeptidyl peptidase IV as a marker of cholestasis and correlation with other brush border enzymes (alkaline phosphatase and y-glutamyl transpeptidase). This study was conducted in Zagazig University hospital during the period fromMay till October 2002.
This work was conducted on 20 healthy control and 50 patients suffering from cholestasis of varying causes, 20 of them with extrahepatic cholestasis (16 have cancer head pancreas, 4 have calcular obstructive jaundice), and 30 with intrahepatic cholestasis (10 have HAV, 14 have HBV, and 6 have HeV).
Biochemical estimation of OPP IV, GGT, ALP, and also direct bilirubin were done for all control and study groups. All the data are made available about the patients considering age, sex, history of similar condition, history of medical disease (D.M, blood transfusion, hypertension, and bilharsiasis) or surgical
operation, DPPIV, GGT, AP, direct bilirubin were tabulated and statistically studied to detect the significance ofthe difference between these data.
The results of the present study revealed:
- As regards OPP IV, there is statistically increase in its level among all studied groups than control group, and there is significant difference between control and extrahepatic cholestasis group, and also between control and intrahepatic cholestasis group. There is non-significant difference between
extra- and intrahepatic cholestasis groups.
