Abstract Soil thermal properties received little interest in soil researches in spite of their great important effect on soil physical, chemical and biological processes. The reason of slow progression in this field of study, is primary attributed to its complications, particularly since all soil components are in dynamic response to the wide variations in diurnal and seasonal radiations. The objectives of this work are to study the effect of soil temperature and soil moisture content on soil water movement. So, this work includes calculating soil thermal properties i.e. thermal conductivity, volumetric heat capacity and thermal diffusivity of two soils differ in their texture, i.e. loamy sand and clay. Also the relationships between these soil thermal properties and different levels of both soil moisture content and soil temperature were studied. In addition, the present work includes the effect of soil temperature and soil moisture content on water and salt movements and also on the heat consumed for water movement in the two soils. |
