Abstract

Secondary infection of skin lesions is a common and serious problem. They can be potentially life threatening and may progress rapidly; therefore, their early recognition and proper management are important.
Staphylococcus aureus is the main bacterial pathogen implicated in secondary infection of skin lesions. Other pathogens include: Group A β-haemolytic streptococci, Gram-negative enteric bacteria, pseudomonas and others.
This study was done to determine the incidence of aerobic and anaerobic organisms causing secondary infection of skin lesions, test their production of β-lactamase and their antibiotic sensitivity patterns.
