This study was carried out in medical biochemistry department and
university hospitals faculty of medicine Zagazig University. 120 subjects were enrolled in the study, and were divided into 4 groups:
Group I (control group) which comprised 30 apparently healthy individual their age ranged from 25-40 years (15 male& 15 female).

Group IV included 30 persons (15 male & 15 female) with an age above 70 years .
. ’This work was designed in an attempt to investigate comparatively the effect of aging on biochemical markers of bone turnover in Egyptian male and female subjects and to identify the effect of sex hormones on regulation of bone turnover in men and women.
Fasting blood samples and 24-hour urine were collected from all subjects included in the study.
In sera, serum PICP, osteocalcin, testosterone, estradiol, calcium,
phosphorus, magnesium and total alkaline phosphatase enzyme were
assayed.
Lastly, we measured hydroxyproline in urine samples. Results were collected, tabulated, statistically analyzed and discussed.
- The data obtained showed that: Serum PICP and osteocalcin concentrations, in group II, III and IV were significantly high when
