Abstract
Thoracic disc herniations are rare and account for less than 1% of all protruded discs. They occur most commonly between the third and fifth decades of life.
The most common level is T11/12, with 75% of all thoracic disc prolapses occurring below T8.
In this study we explained the special anatomy of the thoracic disc and the thoracic region.
We also explained the clinical picture and pathogenesis of the thoracic disc herniations and the possible differential diagnosis for this disease, and then we explained the different modalities investigating this disease including the different radiology methods specially the M.R.I, also we explained the different electrophysiological studies that aid in the diagnosis.
Then we discussed the different options of the treatment including the conservative manner and the different surgical procedures described for this disaease.steressing on the new thoracosopic video assisted thoracic discectomy.
We also explained the complications that may result from these different procedures explaining the rate of morbidity and mortality.
