Abstract Insomnia is an important concern in elderly patients, not only because it is common, but also because it can cause clinically relevant daytime impairments (Ancoli- Israel et al, 2005). In order to study prevalence of insomnia in Egyptian rural area, a cross section study was carried out in Elwarraq island village, Giza Governate Village elderly population’s number was 836 according to Central Agency for public mobilization and statistics (CAPMAS), 2005. 200 subjects were studied (106 females, 94 males), all were elderly ≥ 60 years old All subjects answered a questionnaire that contains questions about sociodemographic data as (age, sex, marital state, education level, income level). Screening for depression using Geriatric depression scale (GDS), screening for cognitive impairment was done by mini-mental state examination scale (MMSE). Sleep assessment questionnaire that contain (Epworth daytime sleepiness scale, sleep disorder questionnaire, direct questions for presence or absence of insomnia symptoms. |
