Abstract
The status of left ventricular function in patients with isolated mitral stenosis is controversial .Although rheumatic disease affects the architecture of the left ventricle and rheumatic inflammatory response is present with in the myocardium of patients with long standing mitral disease it is not clear that this results in abnormal left ventricular muscle function in mitral stenosis .Haemodynamic and angiographic studies have failed to yield a uniform concept of left ventricular muscle function in mitral stenosis.
