Abstract The psychiatric practice implies ethical considerations. Psychiatrists have the duty to be aware of the specific ethical needs of psychiatry. The World Psychiatric Association (WPA) approved some ethical standards that should govern the conduct of psychiatrists worldwide (Reid, 2002). Medical malpractice in general is any act or failure to act by a member of the medical profession that results in harm, injury, distress , prolonged physical or mental suffering , or the termination of life to a patient while that patient is under the care of that medical professional (Moore et al. ,2000). Similarly Kelly (2004) defined psychiatric malpractice as the psychiatrists’ misconduct or failure to provide a professional level of skill in the care and treatment of their patients. |
