Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the commonest primary hepatic neoplasm. Its incidence is expected to increase due to wide spread of Hepatitis C in Egypt which is responsible for most of the cases of liver cirrhosis and HCC. Early diagnosis of HCC gives a golden chance for the patients because the curative treatment is still feasible. In our study, 121 patients with chronic liver diseases, hepatic focal lesion(s) detected by the imaging study, serum alpha fetoprotein below 200 ng/ml were selected. All the patients were subjected to full history taking, complete clinical examination, laboratory investigations including; complete blood picture, liver profile (ALT, AST, Serum albumin, prothrombin times and serum bilirubin), hepatitis markers (HBs Ag and HCV Ab) and serum AFP level, abdominal ultrasonograghy, abdominal triphasic spiral computed tomography and histopathological examination of hepatic focal lesion biopsy. |
