Environmental information literacy is a skill that we need, urgently, now and in the future. Since, the natural resources in Egypt are very limited, beside, the tremendous increase in the human populations, exerted a great pressure on these resources. Depletion of these resources occurs, with the absence of environmental awareness, which constitute one of the obstacles which hinder development and result in different crises that face Egypt now.
Several efforts appeared by Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Information, in addition to several governmental and non¬governmental organizations. Nevertheless, these efforts are not enough to change the unfavorable behavior towards the environment. Based on the functions of public libraries in serving the community, they may have a great role in supporting these efforts. Since, book and printed word were and will continue the widest windows for acquiring knowledge and obtaining the information
Public libraries are considered the only place among mass communication media that can help the citizen for building his character as well as his independent political, social attitudes and share positively in democratic activities. Thus public libraries will not be a propaganda tool.
Results:
}- There were a great interdisciplinary among environmental sciences and other human sciences. So, it is necessary to create cooperation among libraries to respond to all the needs of the users in the field of environment.
2- Although, there are several efforts exerted by Ministries of Environment. Education
and Information, there were no coordination among them
3- Most of the sample public libraries building are eligible for use. Nevertheless, they
aren’t eligible for future development.
4- Most of the sample public libraries suffer from great lack in environmental
materials.
5- The field of environmental awareness lacks successful continuity
