المستخلص

PUVA and UVB radiations are known to induce stimulation of epidermal and hair follicle melanocytes and are commonly used in the treatment of vitiligo and other hypopigmentary diseases. It has already been established that both treatment modalities affect epidermal and hair follicle melanocytes directly and indirectly by release of several melanocytes mitogens from adjacent cells, i.e., autocrine and paracrine mechanisms. Recently, an endocrine pathway has been suggested based on a number of clinical and investigative studies. In this mechanism, melanocytes mitogens, such as bFGF, SCF, HGF and ET-1 that have been released gain access to the circulation and stimulate melanogenesis by remote (hidden) melanocytes that are not directly exposed to irradiation.
