Abstract

The purpose of the present experiment is to assess the effect of soil type on root-knot nematode population, to test the efficacy or certain systemic nematicides in controlling the concerned nematodes and to explore the mobility of the tested nematicides in two types of soil. Control of root-knot nematodes, meloidogyne spp. on tomato plants with new systemic nematicides viz. Temik, a carbamate; terracur p, nemacur and nemafos organophosphates, in two types of soil viz. Clay-loam and plain sandy soils, has been investigated. A pilot experiment is conducted to assess the infectivity of root-knot nematodes in five different soil types. The efficacy, mobility and leach of the above mentioned nematicides are studied in both soil types and their effect on the infectivity of root-knot nematodes. The nematicides are used at the rate of 15 k fed of the 10% granular formulation and are incorporated into the soil as side-treatment. Their mobility are exercised in bamboo soil olumns at three depths. Split root system technique is attempted to explore the downward movement of the tested nematicides.
