Abstract

Tendinitis although not life threatening, is an extremely common problem that interferes with an active life style. Overuse tendinitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of tendon occurring usually at its point of insertion in to bone or at the point of muscular origin . The inflammation can extend to adjacent bursal tissue. There are several causes for tendenitis ; most commonly due to repetitive activity or trauma, but can be without obvious cause .Overuse tendinitis affects females as well as males. Ballet dancers, athletes, golfers, bowlers, carpenters and running. hurdlers are commonly affected but overuse tendinitis is common in the general population.Overuse tendinitis is diagnosed clinically by history of repetitive activity or trauma. Routine radiographs are often not needed during the initial visit if involvement of the tendon or tendon sheath is evident. When there is daubet , radiographs are appropriate to eliminate the possibility of aproblem such as degenerative arthritis of the adjacent jaint or a stress fracture near the tendon-bone junction. CT, Ultrasonagraphy or MRI will allow evalution of the tendon as well as the surrounding structures, such as the adjacent joint. In conclusion tendinitis is an overuse injury that is most common in those athletes that entertain highly repetitive activity. In order to accurately identify this injury you must have a thorough understanding of the involved anatomy.
